Special Course on Japanese Language and Japanese Culture in HCMC (1~10/8/2013)

Continuing success of the course in 2012, University of Tsukuba organized the “Special Course on Japanese Language and Culture 2013” in Ho Chi Minh City from August 1st to August 10th, 2013. The course is to provide essential knowledge and skill of Japanese and Japanese culture to future Vietnamese students of University of Tsukuba and other universities in Japan.

Participants of the course were undergraduate and graduate students from universities in HCMC who are going to study or planning to study at University of Tsukuba and some other universities in Japan. Professor Hideichi Eto, Associate Professor Ryoko Misono, Associate Professor Shingo Imai, Ms. Ayaka Sato, Ms. Miyu Arai, Ms. Hanako Shinohara, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong from Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba came to deliver lectures. Ms. Naoki Date and Ms. Risa Muto, students of the College of Japanese Language and Culture of University of Tsukuba also came to introduce university life and youth culture in Japan.

Students of the course learnt basic knowledge of Japanese language and practised several daily conversations in morning classes, learnt Japanese culture and society in afternoon classes. Students were introduced Japanese customs in foods, clothing and housing, ceremonies, festivals, activities in holidays, history of Japanese cinema, origami, calligraphy etc.

Although not lasting for a long time, the course helped students to be able to say greetings, introduce themselves, ask information and say some other necessary daily expression as well as understand features of Japanese culture.

Upon finishing the course, participants were awarded Certificates of Attendance issued by the Provost of Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Tsukuba.

Beside the course organized at HCMC Office, students of University of Tsukuba also went to attend the culture exchange meeting with students of HCMC University of Education.

University of Tsukuba HCMC Office plans to organize the Japanese class annually to help more Vietnamese students with Japanese language and knowledge of Japanese culture to prepare for their future student life in Japan.
